Real Salt

Just about everyone knows that, if you have high blood pressure, you shouldn't use too much salt - that is, the salt you buy in the grocery store that costs about 99 cents.

Redmond RealSalt is different. It is pure, natural salt–without any additives, chemicals, or heat processing. RealSalt is extracted from deep within the earth, crushed, screened, and packaged without any bleaching or refining. RealSalt’s unique “pinkish” appearance and flecks of color come from more than 50 natural trace minerals, including iodine. It sort of reminds me of sand and has a gritty texture that some people don't like. I didn't like the texture at first but I don't mind it now and usually hardly notice it.

I've been using RealSalt for maybe 5 years now and don't like to use anything else. I have a family history of high blood pressure so I try to be careful about sodium intake, but I'm a salt lover. People with weak adrenals, which I think I probably have, usually crave salt. My doctor told me to use RealSalt liberally and my blood pressure is always good. Last week at my doctor's appointment, the top number was only 98 - probably too low.

RealSalt contains 50 naturally occurring trace minerals like calcium, potassium, sulphur, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, manganese, copper, iodine and zinc. Read more!

Panic Attacks

Have you ever had a panic attack? I have, and I know other people who have had panic attacks. They're real, and they're scary. Some people end up in an emergency room because of them.

Joe Barry, a former sufferer of panic attacks, has developed a completely natural approach to eliminating 100% of general anxiety and panic attacks.

Dangers of Microwave Cooking

My microwave oven died several years ago and I chose not to buy another one because I had heard about some of the dangers of microwave cooking. My family wasn't happy about my choice because they thought they couldn't live without a microwave. We started using a toaster oven that also has convection baking and also use a double-boiler on the stove top, and we've managed to survive without a microwave oven.

I read something once but was never able to try it because I didn't have a microwave. It said to heat a cup of water in a microwave oven, let it cool and then water a plant with it and watch the plant die.

Ten Reasons to Throw out your Microwave Oven (information found at Mercola.com)

From the conclusions of the Swiss, Russian and German scientific clinical studies, we can no longer ignore the microwave oven sitting in our kitchens. Based on this research, we will conclude this article with the following:

1). Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes long term - permanent - brain damage by "shorting out" electrical impulses in the brain [de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue].
2). The human body cannot metabolize [break down] the unknown by-products created in microwaved food.
3). Male and female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by continually eating microwaved foods.
4). The effects of microwaved food by-products are residual [long term, permanent] within the human body.
5). Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is reduced or altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down.
6). The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when cooked in microwave ovens.
7). Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths [tumors]. This may explain the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in America.
8). The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood.
9). Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies through lymph gland and blood serum alterations.
10). Eating microwaved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional instability, and a decrease of intelligence.

Have you tossed out your microwave oven yet?
After you throw out your microwave you can use a toaster oven as a replacement. It works well for most and is nearly as quick.

More Information on Vitamin D

Dr. Mercola says that the number of diseases found to be impacted by your vitamin D levels is rising rapidly. As Dr. Cannell (a vitamin D researcher) points out in his meta-analysis, vitamin D appears to reduce your risk of dying from virtually ANY disease. Dr. Mercola also says that everyone should have their vitamin D levels tested but not through Quest (the results from there apparently have not been accurate). The test is called a 25-hydroxyvitamin D level and the levels are as follows:

Deficient = Less than 50 ng/ml

Optimal = 50 - 65 ng/ml

For someone with cancer = 65 - 90 ng/ml

Excessive = Greater than 100 ng/ml

The Benefits of Vitamin D

I'm learning some interesting benefits of vitamin D, also known as the "sunshine vitamin." The best source of vitamin D is from the sun. From what I've read, we're supposed to get about 10 minutes of sun exposure a day without sunscreen, depending on our skin type. Fair-skinned people don't need as much exposure as dark-skinned people. I'm fair skinned so I should stay in the sun without sunscreen just until my skin turns a very light pink. That's kind of hard because sometimes I don't realize my skin is pink until the evening, when it is usually not pink but red - ouch!

Vitamin D is supposed to help prevent colds and flu, possibly the reason why more people get colds and flu in the wintertime, when they don't have as much sun exposure. That makes sense to me. I take a high quality vitamin D3 supplement which my doctor recommends and I get from her clinic. When I ran out of it a while back and was off of it for a while, I noticed that I was feeling kind of weak in the legs and off balance. After I started taking it again, I started feeling stronger. Psychological? I don't think so because it took me a while to connect the two.

One of the benefits of vitamin D is the prevention of cancer, including pancreatic, lung, breast, ovarian, prostate, and colon cancers.

Optimal vitamin D levels are known to positively influence the following health conditions:
  • Cold and flu
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Multiple sclerosis and osteoporosis
  • Autism

Stay tuned for more on the benefits of vitamin D later.
